...a lovely Victorian bath complements each boutique room or suite.

Each bed chamber provides every comfort in our Victorian-appointed rooms. Fluffy comforters, stitched quilts, decorative coverlets, pillows with a variety of softness, ample writing areas, richly upholstered chairs and lounges, period bedroom furniture, spacious wardrobe cabinets, original walk-in closets feature built-in chests-of-drawers for storage.

Most rooms are ornamented with their original handcarved wood-and-tile fireplaces. All our stunning Period accommodations are located either on the second or the third floor.

The SAGE ROOM   - a  Deluxe Boutique Room with Private Bath

Located in the South Tower.

The SAGE ROOM is one of our favorite large rooms. Its curved Eastern wall gives away its location in the Mansion's South Tower. The Victorian suite of bedroom furniture includes a hand-painted dresser, night-stand, and ornate bed boards. Two upholstered rockers with an ottoman provide comfortable spots for enjoying a good book. The Period writing desk is accompanied by an upholstered Eastlake chair. Oriental carpets ground the room, which has a hand-carved and tiled fireplace and several feet of original built-in oak cabinets for storage, as well as a conventional bar-and-rack closet for hanging apparel. Late original Victorian art enhances the wall spaces. Medium-firm queen-size mattress.

The roomy en suite bath acknowledges the native American ancestral land that The Dempsey rests on. The bath is appointed with native North and South American art and artifacts including pre-columbian potteries.

The PLUM ROOM  - a  Deluxe Boutique Room with en suite Private Bath

Located in South Wing

This fine and spacious bedroom offers a soft but exuberant Victorian color palette. The PLUM ROOM is an eye-catching feast of shades of rose, gold, floral green, pink, and of course plum. The hand-carved walnut bedroom suite is Italian late Victorian; the upholstered pair of forest green arm chairs provide a comfortable contrast. Two nightstands, a parlor table, two dressers, an armoire, and a white Louis XVI sidechair complete the room. An original hand-carved wood and tile fireplace speaks of elegance and romance. Accessories often provide the icing on the cake: a lovely display of jeweled and colorfully enameled antique Russian reproduction Faberge imperial eggs, and cabineted collections of gemstone and painted eggs does the trick in this deluxe Guest Room. En suite private bath. Eastern [largest size] king bed. Medium-firm mattress.

LITTLE ANGEL 2 GuestFotoTripadvisor.jpg
The Little Angel Room  - a  Boutique Room with a Private Bath

Located on the Third Floor

Perhaps the most delightful fairy-tale Victorian bed chamber in all of Michigan! You will be enchanted by the treasures it holds. In a large backlit display cupboard from an historic Chicago mansion, discover a brilliant collection of 18th and 19th century antique English tea services. From the estate of Beverly Sills, New York's late first magnitude coloratura soprano, a pair of 1770 Royal Worcester "Queen Charlotte" cups and saucers take center stage among the dazzlingly colorful displays, and serve as a nostalgic reminder of the days when the Dempsey Manor's creator, James Colburn, worked with "Bubbles" at the New York City Opera Company.  An 1890s Eastlake desk, outfitted for your private correspondence, finds a perfect spot in front of an eclectic collection of small Far East exotica in a lit 18th century English oak corner cabinet. In another corner an arrangement of 18th century Chinese blue and white porcelains and a cabinet with rare crystal perfume bottles add more elegance. An Early American bedstead creates the perfect atmosphere for other-worldly dreams. Comfortable down-filled silk covers and finest bed linens complete this room’s fantasy of yesteryear.
A petite private bathroom with a step-in shower is a few steps across the hall.
Medium-firm queen-size mattress.

The TEAL ROOM  - a  Deluxe Boutique Room with  en suite Private Bath

Located in North Wing

This charming and large Guest Room is country-comfortable. The enormous corner cabinet is painted in the Alsace-Lorraine style of the 19th century. Two antique tables de chevet from Old Mexico flank the impressive walnut bed dating from the time of Lincoln. A stunning Austrian wedding chest painted with country scenes serves as a window table. A Period Eastlake desk and chair provide ample writing space. The walls are decorated with a collection of antique needlework Samplers and Period paintings. The spacious walk-in closet also contains original oak built-in drawers and shelves for extra storage. Oriental rugs, an antique circular table flanked by two 19th century English rush-seated country-oak side chairs, an upholstered Eastlake armchair, a rocker, and a Victorian walnut armoire complete the furnishings of the TEAL ROOM. Medium-firm queen-size mattress.

 The JAMES DEMPSEY GRAND SUITE
- a Premier Boutique Suite available with en suite Private Bath

Located in the North Tower

The Suite occupies approximately one-third of the second floor. It has two private entrances: one from the West wing into the Bedroom, and one from the East wing into the Sitting/Living Room.

Its large walnut-trimmed Bedroom has a walk-in closet with its original oak chest of drawers, an original tile and handcarved-wood fireplace, a bay window (with window bench), and lovely antique appointments: oriental carpets,  an armoire, upholstered armchairs, and a most elegant massive 19th century four-poster canopy bed purchased at the sale of furnishings from a Victorian Seattle Washington mansion. For the JAMES DEMPSEY GRAND SUITE a luxurious non-standard hand-crafted larger-than-queen-size medium-firm mattress was custom manufactured for this antique bed. Among the art in the Grand Suite is a large antique Orientalist original canvas by Phillip Miller, antique Chinese porcelains, an Impressionist Still-Life by Lester Schultz, and an outstanding reverse-glass period painting of Martha Washington by William Matthew Prior.

The Suite has a voluminous Sitting Room, directly under the North Tower, which surpasses the Bedroom in size. It is also furnished in period antiques which include a sofa and matching armchair, a game table and chairs, a vitrine parlor table, a Gentleman's Cabinet, an 18th century style Victorian drop-down desk with chest of drawers, an English tall-case clock, an English corner cabinet, a French daybed with custom upholstery, a period chandelier original to the mansion, and an original tiled and handcarved-wood fireplace. The art in the Sitting/Living Room includes several large Oriental handpainted-on-silk naturalistic ornithological studies, large period Chinese blue-and-white urns, and a large finely executed 18th century English portrait of an aristocratic gentleman contemporary with the Martha Washington portrait.

Ensuite to the sitting room is an ample Victorian bath, a clawfoot tub with shower enclosure, a porcelain pedestal sink, and a bank of stunning original built-in oak cabinets finely detailed in classical motifs. The bathroom has a marvelous recently-restored original parquet floor.

The ANGEL SUITE  -- a Premium Boutique Penthouse Suite with en suite Private Bath

Located in South Tower

In the Angel Suite, magnificent furnishings and appointments in both the Bedroom area and the Sitting/Living Room area are complemented by an elegant two-room Bathroom, fitted with an original iron claw-foot tub with shower enclosure, porcelain pedestal sink, toilet, and six antique stained-glass windows.

An 1840 French Empire sofa grounds the Sitting Room under the South Tower turret. A pair of comfortably upholstered reclining wing-back chairs face turret windows with a view of the gardens.

An authentic 19th century French upholstered iron daybed and a Victorian style wrought iron bed center the Sleeping Area. A rustic Country pine Irish desk features antique writing implements.
